May 4, 2017 Tuesday night, in front of a crowd of over 200; Jim Chisholm accepted the endorsement from the Westchester GOP. He began as he always does by thanking the Veterans for their service to our country. He accepted the nomination by stating “We need to take back the County Clerk’s Office and make it work for the people again”. He noted that “As a leader in the business community; I have seen first had the impact of fees, restrictions and policy decisions made by the Westchester County Clerk”. He was nominated by Justin Tubiolo from Yonkers; who stated that “The People from Westchester County have a unique opportunity to elect a man who has a diversified life and strong entrepreneurial background. He noted Jim’s business experience and community involvement and highlighted the many organizations that Jim has been involved with. Justin went on to highlight Jim’s family and his family values. “Jim Chisholm is a stand up guy who will always fight for the people of Westchester” he concluded. His nomination was seconded by Rosemary McLaughlin from New Rochelle. She stated that Jim was a “strong family man and astute businessman”. Calling him “inquisitive, informed and a real problem solver”. Jim thanked both Justin and Rosemary and noted he grew up in Yonkers and was educated in New Rochelle. Chisholm currently resides in Somers with his wife. He has served as a small business man, and has volunteered his time to different local community organizations over the last 40 years. This includes his current roles as the Commissioner to the NYS Parks and Recs Board, Chairman of Westchester County Parks, Recreation and Conservation Board, and Chairman of Westchester County Playland Citizens Advisory Board. He has previously served as the Economic Development Director to the New York State Senate’s 40th District. He served as the Chairman to the Bedford Drug Abuse Council as well as President of the Somers Chamber of Commerce, Somers Lions Club and Eastchester Rotary Club. Additionally, he was on the American Youth Soccer Board and was a baseball, softball and soccer coach for youth teams. During his acceptance speech Jim stated that not many people know, but the Westchester County Clerk is the oldest elected position in Westchester County. He said that “Constituents currently are not being answered in a timely professional manner and this is totally unacceptable” Chisholm said two of his priorities are to update the outdated PREP system and address the gun permit process. He then explained what the PREP system is and how it is used. He called the current system “outdated”. He said his goal is to make it work for all those who use it. Jim then went on to say that he was “outraged by the Clerk pandering to the demands of the media when he divulged the personal information of law abiding gun owners”. He concluded his speech by promising to take a 10% pay reduction in his salary to start promoting government efficiency. He also pledged his support for County Executive Rob Astorino and the Board of Legislators. The crowd erupted in applause followed by a standing ovation, as Jim left the podium as the Republican Nominee for Westchester County Clerk.
